  1. Preheat oven to 325** degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Dissolve baking soda in hot water.
  4. Add to batter along with salt. Stir in flour, chocolate chips, and nuts.
  5. Drop by large spoonfuls onto ungreased pans. Bake for about 22** minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are nicely browned.
Recipe Notes

**The original chocolate chip cookie recipe baked at 350 degrees-- when I changed that to 325 degrees, the cookies turned out higher & chewier.  They kept their form without being flat-- a real beautiful cookie.  I also made half with white chocolate chip and half with semi-sweet chocolate chip.  By far, the best chocolate cookie I've made.
